The East Side Trail on the Welland Canal has been under stewardhip by the Niagara Timber-Line Riders for ore than 10 years. One of our reference letters when trying to convince Simcoe County in 2005 to enter into our use agreement came from here and we didnt have many references back then.
Across the canal from where the trails are, a new housing development was created and now one of the new homeowners has a problem with ORMs and ATVs. We havent heard if they don't like the 200 foot long freighters blocking the view, perhaps they are next....
The main complaint right now is noise even though a motorcycle at 94 decibels, 80 feet away (the width of the canal) would be heard at 49.9 decibels.
There is a comparitive noise chart at http://www.industrialnoisecontrol.com/comparative-noise-examples.htm that considers 50 decibels to be a "Quiet suburb, conversation at home. or Large electrical transformers at 100 ft"
The Niagara Timer-Line Riders are working on the issue and have asked fellow OFTR members to read an article in the local newspaper and vote. Please do so, numbers count.
